The Journal endorses the following candidate in contested races for the state House in the June 5 primary. House endorsements were also published in Thursday’s Journal:

District 68, Republican —Monica Youngblood

Republican Monica Youngblood seeks to represent the northern West Side District 68 created in redistricting as a result of the 2010 census.

An Albuquerque native and small-business owner, Youngblood said being raised by a dedicated single mom, learning the value of independent effort in SouthValley schools and holding her first job in a grocery at age 14 taught her the importance of education and hard work and instilled in her a conservative outlook.

She says there is a need to improve education for all New Mexico students, and making sure everyone can read by third grade is essential. She favors teacher evaluations, saying, “In the private sector we are all evaluated based on our performance and contribution to the company.”

The Journal endorses Monica Youngblood in the Republican primary for House District 68. The winner will face Democrat Eloise Gift in November.
